The Invitation
The word “shaman” originates with the Tungus tribe of Siberia, and translates to: “one who sees in the dark.” As the nights lengthen, political violence worsens, and the U.S. slips further into fascism, let us practice and hone our skills with shamanic journeying, learn from one another, build shamanic community, and explore how we can meet these times with power.
Each class will include:
A short talk that is relevant to the times we live in;
1-2 guided shamanic journeys or other shamanic practices;
Sharing in small groups;
An opportunity to ask questions about shamanic journeying, and receive instruction and guidance on areas where you might be getting stuck.
Each week, I will journey before class to my Helping Spirits and ask them to guide the content. Perhaps they might suggest that we journey on what it means to practice true nonviolence in these times, and how each of us can do this, given the reality of our lives. Perhaps they might encourage us to journey to ourselves 10-20 years in the future, or our descendants, to find out what steps we took to emerge from a culture of hate and division.
These themes will run throughout this series: what is yours to do in these times? How can you use the pressure, heat, and force of these times to hone yourself into a powerful tool for love and nonviolent change?
This will also be an opportunity to bring your questions and challenges with journeying and receive supportive suggestions and guidance.
Pre-requisite: This class is for people who have taken an introductory workshop in shamanic journeying and are ready to practice these skills with the support of a teacher and a shamanic community. Basic experience with shamanic journeying is required.
